Carl Benton | Director - Personal Trainer
Prior to establishing the Personal Best, Carl taught Physical Education, coached teams and ran Fitness classes for 10 years in the New Forest. Carl was also a regular contributor to Ultra Fit magazine, writing over 40 articles in collaboration with Pete Cohen.
Personal Best opened its doors in April 2001 solely as a Personal Training Studio. In 2005 Carl & his wife Kristine bought the business and set about creating something special. Inspired by the Scandinavian ‘health house’ concept, Personal Best is a fully integrated clinic and fitness studio that offers a wonderfully diverse range of wellness expertise and services under one roof.
Carl enjoys playing golf in his spare time and running after his two boys, who constantly keep him on his toes! In moments of peace, he loves reading especially cookery books and loves cooking for friends.
Carl is registered with the National Register of Personal Trainers
Kristine Hagen | Director -Chiropractor
Kristine qualified from the Anglo European College of Chiropractic in 2000 with a Masters degree in Chiropractic. Kristine worked on the south coast, starting her own clinic in Portsmouth in 2003. When the opportunity to move to the Cotswolds and set up Personal Best arose, Kristine and Carl set about creating something special. Inspired by the Scandinavian ‘health house’ concept, Personal Best is a fully integrated clinic and fitness studio that offers a wonderfully diverse range of wellness expertise and services under one roof.
From an early age, Kristine has loved movement, performing both ballet and gymnastics to a very high level. Her love of movement and passion for helping people move well led her on her career path. Kristine continues to attend seminars and workshops and has widened her treatment skills to include kinesio-taping, medical acupuncture, insole (orthotic) fitting as well as spinal and extremity rehabilitation.
Kristine Works closely with Southmead, Nuffield and Winfield hospitals, as well as the local GP practices and can refer directly for MRI and X-rays or surgical appointments. With over 16 year’s experience, she is able to provide for Bupa, AXA/PPP, Saga, WPA, (plus all other major medical insurance companies).
As Director of Personal Best Clinic, Kristine is responsible for overseeing the clinic team, patient care and day to day running of the clinic. Kristine strives hard to create the best environment and patient care procedures to ensure our patients receive the best possible care and service.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her two young boys, walking, reading the latest Nordic Noir and travelling.
Kristine is registered with the General Chiropractic Council and the Scottish Chiropractic Council.
Geoff Boldero | Chiropodist & Podiatry
Geoff trained at the renowned SMAE Institute in Maidenhead and gained a Diploma in Chiropody and Podiatry.
With over 20 years experience in various settings Hospital, GP Surgery, and Multi-disciplinary Clinics, Geoff has seen many thousands of patients and he prides himself on his approachability, which enables him to get to the heart of the problem quickly.
Geoff specialises in all areas of biomechanical Podiatry practice including gait analysis, orthotic prescription and manufacture and regularly receives referrals from GP’s and Consultants for his services.
In his spare time Geoff enjoys spending time writing and recording music, property development, Swimming and Yoga

Vicki Jones | Beauty Therapy
With over 30 years experience in the Health & Beauty Industry Vicki has worked in Beauty Clinics, run her own business, taught Beauty Therapy, and volunteered with the ‘look good feel better’ cancer charity and worked as an image consultant. In her spare time Vicki enjoys walking her black Labrador on the common, playing golf, jive dancing and keeping fit & healthy.
Vicki is a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapists & Cosmetologists
Nadene Lidington | Chiropractor
Nadene qualified from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic with a Masters degree in Chiropractic. Nadene first encountered Chiropractic at a young age following a sports injury. By chance she got treated by Kristine who treated her and her family back in her home town of Southampton. From this point on the seed was sewn and she was inspired to follow the same rewarding career path of reducing pain and restoring function to people.
Nadene continues to attend seminars that widened her treatment skills to include Kinesio-taping, medical acupuncture and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation. Nadene believes that by getting to the route of the problem and teaching her patients exercises to help self manage, symptoms can pass and function can be restored. Regular maintenance will help to decrease the chance of the injury reoccurring.
Outside of clinic Nadene enjoys socialising with friends, playing netball at a competitive level and horse riding.
Nadene is registered with the General Chiropractic Council and the British Chiropractic Council.
JJ Cook | Personal Trainer & Sports Therapist
JJ initially completed a Diploma in Personal Training and Sports Massage Therapy with Premier Training International in 2007. Feeling that there was still far more that he could learn about the industry, he studied for a Degree in Sports Therapy at the University of Gloucestershire in 2008. Throughout his degree, JJ was able to work with and train elite athletes. JJ spent some time working with the players at Gloucester Rugby Club and in 2011 was part of Scotland Students Rugby Leagues medical team at the Four Nations Championships.
Integrating the roles of Personal Trainer and Sports Therapist, he is able to treat and rehabilitate injuries of all kinds, as well as ensure clients maintain and exceed their fitness goals. Treating and training through a holistic approach, where the focus is on the whole body and how it moves, each person is able to reach their full ability.
JJ continues to broaden his knowledge and experience further to ensure each person receives the most up to date and effective training.
In his spare time, JJ loves all outdoor pursuits especially hill walking, reading and taking time out with friends
JJ is registered with the National Register of Personal Trainers and is a Member of Society of Sports Therapists
Ian Dowling | Sports Therapist
Ian graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with a First Class Sports Therapy Degree and works with Cinderford Rugby Football Club providing treatments, rehabilitation and pitch-side cover.
Before completing his degree, Ian had a career with the Metropolitan Police and Gloucestershire Constabulary. As well as keeping Gloucestershire safe and sound, Ian has had a lifelong interest in sports and played rugby to a high standard. Since then he maintains his healthy lifestyle with a combination of cycling and weight training, taking part in several long distance charity cycle rides over the past few years.
In his spare time Ian is a keen photographer and loves to travel.
Ian is a member of the Society of Sports Therapists.
Ian is available for Sports massage on Monday 6-8pm, Tuesday 8am – 1pm and Wednesday 8 – 4pm
Tom Bowrey BSc Psychology | Personal Trainer
Tom has a degree in Psychology from UWIC and is a fully qualified PT and Golf Biomechanics Coach. Tom has always enjoyed sports and has represented his district and county in golf, rugby, football and cross county running. As a scratch golfer, Tom was drawn to gain a greater understanding of the golf swing and his golf biomechanics training has enabled him to work with many a keen golfer from amateur to professional.
Tom believes that training to reach your goals should be fun and varied, he therefore incorporates different styles of training to make sure you will stay motivated and keep coming back. In conjunction with the mobility work, Tom uses a mixture of boxing, high intensity training, cardiovascular exercise, weight training and plyometric work to find the right blend and fitness style for you to progress to, reach and pass your fitness goals. Tom has experience working with clients with different kinds of injuries, as well as stroke rehabilitation, sport specific requirements and general fitness.
Tom continues to gain further knowledge in the fitness industry, recently completing a Diploma in Fitness Nutrition, to make sure the exercises and information he passes onto his clients is up to date and relevant to them.
In his spare time, Tom enjoys playing golf, running, and walking on Cleeve Common with his wife and their dog.
