Try something different this year - Sleep well

​This year try to do something different. Instead of writing a list of resolutions that burden rather than motivate you, focus on these 5 key areas to improve many aspects of your life and wellbeing. 

​1. Sleep well

Poor sleep is linked to lack of concentration, weight gain, depression, suppressed immune system and inflammation. Whereas those who sleep well, have higher levels of concentration, perform better and overall consume fewer calories. Sleep, along with nutrition and exercise, form the foundation of optimal health. If you fail to take care of your sleep that optimum becomes significantly harder to achieve.

2.  Exercise

​Exercise is key to a healthy body and healthy mind, try and find a balance between cardio, strengthening, mobilising and rest. Be gentle to your joints, show them the movement ranges they should be able to perform with ease. Be kind to your heart, it is the most important muscle you possess, it needs to be exerted, but also requires time to recover. Rest, recoup and relax, slowing down takes pressure of you and your bodies systems. 

Your body will thank you and consequently your performance will improve!
With two long dark winter months ahead, getting outdoors for exercise can be difficult, but most experts agree that it is a great way to boost your mood. Exercise triggers the release of endorphins into the bloodstream, relieving pain and producing a feeling of well-being. Make the most of the daylight hours, get outside and enjoy the elements. As all Norwegians wilt el you, there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!

3. Healthy food choices

What you eat has a significant impact in your energy levels and your ability to perform, fight off illness and infection and stay vibrant. You truly are what you eat. ​4. Just say NO

​Do you find yourself doing things you do not really want to do, going to places and seeing people that you would rather not? Chances are somewhere along the line you had a choice between yes and no, and you chose yes!
No is a small word that packs a lot of power, but a word we often feel uncomfortable in saying. We prefer to put our own feelings to one side in order not to hurt someone else. Our inability to say “no” occurs because we want to reassure and make others feel comfortable. Ignoring our own feelings and needs seems like the thoughtful thing to do. But as our world spins increasingly faster, powered by algorithms that follow us around social media, online shopping and Netflix then guide us down never ending ‘rabbit holes’, it is understandable that most of us react and decide too quickly.
Pause for thought, consider your choices, consider yourself, replace your automatic ‘Yes’ with "I'll think about it."

5.  Invest in your relationships

​With so many Covid restrictions in place, meeting up with friends has proved tricky this year. But thanks to technology, a lifeline has been thrown to us all. From the early days in the school playground when friendships were formed, friendship plays a significant part in our life importance which gains greater magnitude as we journey through life. Humans need relationships, connections, and the support they extend. There will always be days when we need a little solitude, but at the very core of our DNA is our need to be and feel part of a community. 
To have great friends you must first be a great friend, 

more selfless than selfish, more supportive than undermining and have great sympathetic and empathetic traits. But finding wonderful, high quality people to be friends with and working at the friendship and keeping the connection will be one of the best investments you make. Friendships can bring great joy, inspiration, wisdom, emotional support, adventure, love and be that ‘safe space’ when needed most of all. ​
